This list is comprised of books that have impacted my thoughts and actions, or that I have just really enjoyed reading for their language or narrative.

I think this book is pretty essential for anyone who “designs” for the future. It tells us we cannot predict, thus depict, what the future will be—all we can do is anticipate.
Kafka’s minimal, timeless, and intense narratives show us how to best combine the words that are available to us.
I share Buruma’s fascination with the complexities of a globalizing world and the cultural and personal stories it yields. China Lover, through the lens of a main protagonist, interweaves histories of China, Japan, and the U.S.—three cultures that have affected me as a person of European descent, like Buruma.
A book that makes one think anew about the way the construction of buildings can be conceived.
